Re: Gutting Godspeak.
I have to say that since I have been studying such cases for over two years, I now see hope for justice.

Too many schools' district administrators have ignored basic religious rights in public schools for too long. The Department of Education has guidelines for religious expression that have been around for over 6 years, yet, many school districts continue to ignore the rights of some students.

This case brings it home more clearly since the school officials have emboldened themselves with a veiled message that Jesus Christ should not be mentioned in school. This is a blatant error and violation of civil religious rights, which rights have been said not to "end at the schoolhouse door" by a Supreme Court ruling years ago.

A message thanking any deity for help in one's life is not a violation of the 1st Amendment, but perhaps an example of free exercise of that right.

I do not think that proselytizing had occurred in this case, and it would be improper had it occurred - but it didn't.

Now the rest of us can sit back and watch to see if any non-Christian religious proselytizing is upheld in such school fora. This is the concern of many today. Such violations, if they occur, should be promptly put down.

Our religious liberties can be measured by the distance between Church and State.

Tommy,

I couldn't agree more...!

Government Mandated Immorality And Self Esteem In Public School

"To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society" Theodore Roosevelt
Moral character and leadership, exercised with integrity and reinforcing actions, are powerful influences for school children, and for that matter, all children. Perhaps this is why so many parents prefer, should they be fortunate enough to afford it, a faith-based education for their kids.

This fact may also explain why the left so aggressively attacks, and in other instances suppresses, anything religious as long as it serves the larger agenda of aggrandizing all things secular, especially in government schools.
